Bio

Dr. Robert R. Irons is Associate Professor of Finance at À¶Ý®ÊÓÆµ. He earned his Ph.D. in Management with a concentration in Finance from Illinois Institute of Technology, and holds an MBA and BS in Finance from Northeastern Illinois University.

He teaches undergraduate courses in Corporate Finance and Derivatives, and has supervised numerous independent studies and internships. Dr. Irons has published in journals including Journal of Investments and Journal of Portfolio Management, and authored textbooks such as The Fundamental Principles of Finance and The Preamble as Policy. He also serves as a reviewer and editorial board member for multiple journals.

Before academia, he worked as a financial analyst with United Airlines, AT&T, Aetna Insurance, and Loyola University. He has received teaching awards, including the Joseph Kruson Trust Fund Award, and is a lifetime member of Sigma Beta Delta International Honor Society.

Dr. Irons is also an active chess player with a Candidate Master title. His first chess book, San Sebastian 1911, about one of the most famous chess tournaments in history, was published in fall of 2024. He was the Correspondence Chess Editor for the US Chess federation from 2023-24, during which time he wrote and published the monthly column on correspondence chess, titled The Check is in the Mail. He and his wife run a chess club at the public library in their home town of Heyworth.
