Campus Involvement
Success in college isn’t just marked by good grades and graduation. Joining an organization is a great way to make friends and find a sense of belonging.
Follow your interests, find friends, and learn leadership skills from a choice of 120+ student organizations - whether academic, activist, athletic, cultural, government, fraternity & sorority life, media, music, spiritual or volunteer affiliations.
Office of Campus Culture
The Office of Campus Culture is dedicated to cultivating a sense of belonging and personal understanding on campus through educational programs, cultural celebrations, and spaces for civil discourse. Grounded in mutual respect and a spirit of inquiry, they work to equip our campus community with the tools necessary to navigate complex conversations, strengthen community bonds, and contribute thoughtfully to our ever-evolving world. Other programming includes the Peer Mentorship Program and Summer Enrichment Program.
The Peer Mentoring Program is designed to assist first-generation college students, who are navigating a new university language and exploring opportunities for academic, professional, and personal success. This program pairs upperclassmen with first-year students to ensure a smooth transition to À¶Ý®ÊÓƵ.
Summer Enrichment Program is a six-week, paid internship opportunity for students committed to learning about and fostering a workplace environment that respects and celebrates the cultural backgrounds of all employees. Students work at an internship site in their field of interest and participate in professional development focused on culture in the workplace.
Internships
While internships are not required for many degree programs at IWU, they are beneficial. Internships provide students with experience in their field of study, are often paid, can sometimes be counted for course credit, and look great on resumes when applying for jobs after graduation. The Hart Career Center, your academic advisor, and your professors can help you find an internship or research opportunity to advance your college experience and career. In a competitive job market, internships, research, study abroad, and campus involvement can help set candidates apart from one another, as well as showcasing numerous soft skills (such as time management, teamwork, leadership, and problem-solving). The Hart Career Center also hosts annual Career Fairs and Career Immersion Excursion.
