Objective #4
Enhance Existing Hispanic Studies Minors for Business & Health Professions
The project's team incorporated additional activities related to business and healthcare, respectively. The department of World Languages, Literatures, and Cultures (WLLC) worked with liaisons in the School of Business and Economics (SoBE) and the School of Nursing and Health Sciences (SoNHS) to strengthen the existing curriculum in Spanish for the professions, specifically the 200-level courses Spanish for Health and Spanish for Business. Study abroad opportunities were also created for IWU's athletes. Additionally, new software and hardware increased the capabilities of the Language Resource Center.

This course was designed for students planning to work in business, accounting, finance, entrepreneurship, or marketing and who want to acquire more business-related language and cultural competency skills before entering the work force. Students will read and analyze business documents in Spanish, present oral reports, and work 1-3 hours/week as part of a group project related to the local Latinx community.

The Language Resource Center (LRC) was created to provide students and faculty with computer and audio-visual support for learning additional languages, as well as peer-to-peer conversation practice and tutoring sessions in ASL, Chinese, French, Japanese, Spanish and others. The LRC is a language community space that supports language pedagogy training and experiential learning opportunities for the appreciation of world languages and cultures.
